The paragliding site in Miraflores, Lima, Peru, is a highly popular spot for both locals and visitors. The take-off area is a small circle of grass specifically designated for paragliding, making it easy to launch, although it can get crowded with tandem pilots, especially on weekends. Flights here are dynamic and offer the unique experience of soaring close to buildings in a major city. You can fly up to the Larcomar shopping center, built into the cliffs in front of the Marriott hotel, and see your reflection in the hotel's mirrored front. The cliffs of Costa Verde provide a stunning backdrop, with a 70-meter drop to the beach offering excellent lift. The site is located in the districts of Miraflores (Paraport) and San Isidro (Ghandi Park). The winds are typically laminar, with minimal turbulence, making for smooth flights. There are numerous landing spots along the route, and taxis are readily available to take you back up for another flight. During the summer, the heat can create thermals that allow pilots to reach heights of 500 to 700 meters above the city, particularly in the district of Barranco. The area is busy throughout the day on weekends and during lunch hours and after 5 p.m. on weekdays. Night flights are rare but can be spectacular between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM.
