Sennen is a paragliding site located in Cornwall, UK. It features sandy cliffs overlooking a large beach, which can be very busy with holidaymakers during the season. The site is regularly used for local soaring, although it is mostly not logged. The site has an altitude of 270 feet, with the same height from top to bottom. It is accessible via the A30, almost to Lands End, with a right turn as you approach Sennen. The site is located in the car park on your right. Parking should be done only in designated car parks, and necessary charges must be paid when meters are operating. The wind direction suitable for this site is NW. Both hang gliders (HG) and paragliders (PG) can use this site. Access is restricted to BHPA members, and the pilot level required is CP. The resident club is KHPA, and you can contact Graham Phipps for hang gliding or Steve Dredge for paragliding. The site warden is Nigel Waller. Before flying, pilots must obtain clearance from Lands End Airfield ATC at 01736 788944 and conform to any limits imposed. No clearance means no flying. Top landings are often necessary, and pilots not qualified or current in top landings should seek advice from a local club member or coach. While flying, respect people’s privacy, do not take photos of properties, and avoid ejecting any material into properties. Do not shout down to members of the public regardless of provocation. For rigging, keep top landing and overshoot areas clear. Use common sense and consideration for others, ensuring that unattended gliders do not block access to the launch. Hang gliders especially require room to maneuver along the front to launch. Before launching, check the top landing area and note the position of power cables. Beware of power cables crossing the field and double-decker buses on the road. No beach landings are allowed when the beach is crowded. Hazards include power cables, double-decker buses, helicopters, small commercial aircraft, and private light aircraft active in the area. The site is within the ATZ of Lands End Airport, so clearance is required, and limits may be imposed. All pilots must check with Lands End tower for permission to fly. For weather services, Dialmet is available for RAF St. Mawgan and RNAS Culdrose. For midweek flying, use the Military Freephone at 0800 51 55 44.
